Once Upon a Time...
Our Oxford Reading Group began in the Summer of 2002. Originally conceived by Phil and Michael, the group was put together through acquaintances and an advertisement on the Bloomsbury website. We've been meeting in and around Oxford ever since.

And Then There Were Ten
There are currently about ten of us. We've found the more diverse the group the better: we strive for a heathy balance of gender, age and occupation. Our group currently includes lexicographers, editors, doctors and designers, all of whom come together monthly - to misquote David Mitchell - in the "country called reading" (!)

How It Works
Each group member takes turn to pick a book and host the group - this is usally at their house, but we've also met in the pub, various Oxford colleges and a vegan café. Wine and nibbles are liberally consumed as we discuss what we liked and disliked about each choice.

There are many great things about being in a Reading Group. You'll meet some fantastic people, you'll be introduced to new authors and you'll get to enthuse about that great book you've just read to people who care!

What About...
Oh, and since everybody always wants to know, we are nothing like the Book Group on the Channel 4 Sitcom - our meetings are much more fun and incident packed!
